Impressive large fossil-bearing concretion discovered in Connecticut. This natural rock formed hundreds of millions of years ago in a shallow marine environment and contains visible fossils including brachiopods, a small trilobite impression, a coiled gastropod shell, and additional small marine invertebrates.
These concretions form when mineral-rich sediment hardens around decaying organic matter on the sea floor, preserving it as a fossil mass. Based on the fossils and composition, this example likely dates to the Ordovician–Silurian Period (approximately 440 million years ago) — part of New England’s ancient seabed history.
