Antique Wonderfull Figurine. Group Venus and Cupid. This bisque (biscuit) porcelain figural group is "Le Plaisir Dérobé" (The Stolen Pleasure), modeled after an original 1784 design by Louis-Simon Boizot during his tenure as artistic director of the Sèvres porcelain manufactory.
The classical scene depicts a partially draped maiden standing beside a young putto (Cupid) who reaches up into a basket or container. The statue is mounted on an ornamental gilt/gold-toned base decorated with high-relief rose blossoms.
Made by Edmé Samson in France c.1860 from blanc de chine bisque porcelain, after the originals by Louis Simon Boizot for Sèvres.
Overall, it’s in excellent condition except the larger figurine seems to have had something break off from the top of her hand and part of her index finger on her lower hand.
I cannot verify 100% for sure that this is signed by SERVES, Meissen, Samson, or Louis-Simon Boizot. as the gold base is securely fastened to the figurine and i dont see any markings. If there are any markings/signatures it would be probably be underneath the figurine itself but im not sure. But it looks and appears to be legit to me. Including the gold base, everything measures approximately: 12 inches high and the base is 8 inches wide by 7 1/2 inches deep. Comes as pictured and described. Free shipping!!
** The figurine itself without the base measures approximately: 6” W x 4.5" D x 8.5” H
