Offered here is an exceptional and exceedingly rare artifact from post-WWIIAmerican naval aviation — a replacement control wheel center cap from the MartinP5M-2 Marlin flying boat. This is an older reproduction from about 20 years ago. This cap is in excellent condition, showcasing solidconstruction and original finish. It measures just under 3 inches in diameterand would have been mounted at the center of the yoke in the pilot’s controlwheel.
The Martin P5M-2 Marlin was the final evolutionof the U.S. Navy’s long-range maritime patrol flying boats. Introduced in 1952as a successor to the PBM Mariner, the Marlin served during the height of theCold War in anti-submarine and reconnaissance roles. With its distinctivegull-wing design and twin Wright R-3350 radial engines, the aircraft was aformidable and iconic presence in naval aviation. Only 285 units were produced, and tragically, just one complete P5M-2 remains preserved today.
This control wheel cap is a remarkable survivorfrom a lost era of seaplane operations. Whether you're restoring a cockpitassembly, curating a serious naval aviation collection, or seeking anextraordinary display piece, this item is a true conversation starter andhistorical treasure. Its rarity and connection to one of the last great flyingboats make it a one-of-a-kind offering.
