NOTE ABOUT THIS KNIFE:Most CaseXX folding hunters use thick stag in which the scales must be shaved down tofit the bolsters. Look at this one. The front handle is fit to thebolsters well (quality fit and finish), so most of the stag bark remains.In addition, this was old stag, and it has aged to a most-beautiful ambercolor. It's as pretty as it gets!

CaseXX 1940-1964, 5165 SAB, STAG Folding Hunter, marked “5165SAB” very faintly on back of blade.Length closed = 5 ¼”. Singlesaber-grind blade. BEAUTIFUL aged amberstag, which is fitted to the bolsters on front (not shaven down to fit as moststag knives). Lots of bark and dark stagon front; lighter stag on back. Bladeused and a bit worn down, but not bad.Older XX Frame. Open-Cshield. Low pull. Brass liners. No cracks or chips at all; great scales. One of the shield pins is deeply set. Good snap opening and closing. TIGHT = absolutely no left/right play. Used, but great stag = XL minus. Robert Wells lists it = $700 (2026).

• Tang stamp is "CASE XX" = 1940-1964.
• Knife is 5-1/4" long (closed) with brass liners.
• The blade steel is carbon steel.
• Main blade has excellent matchup with the backspring, and no left/right play when tugged on.
• Nickel-silver oval, pinned CASE SHIELD. One pin on shield is either deeply set or missing. Shield is not loose, though.
• Knife has good snap opening and closing.
  
• Handles are beautiful, aged STAG; great color andtexture. As pretty as stag gets.
  
• Handles have a no hairline cracks at all(NONE). Hairlines were very common in this pattern, because the pins wereplaced close to the handle margins; none on this knife.
  
• Used and sharpened (with sharpening loss); mainblade appears nearly full length; well past bolster.
  
• The knife blade has dark patina and spotting.
  
• Very nice example of an old stag FoldingHunter.
