Maasai Beaded Rungu – Tanzania – 11\"

Handmade beaded wooden rungu purchased directly from a Maasai community during our visit to Tanzania in 2018.

This is the actual piece we purchased during the visit. It measures approximately 11 inches long and features detailed multicolor beadwork over a carved wooden shaft, with beadwork around the rounded head and a small beaded loop at the base.

The rungu is a traditional East African wooden club/baton closely associated with Maasai culture. Traditional rungus have been carried by warriors and elders, while decorative beaded versions are also produced as cultural crafts.

Provenance: Purchased by our family directly from a Maasai community in Tanzania in 2018. We have owned it continuously since then.
