Maru Magic Bar Pillow Honolulu Hawaii Vintage Massager Original Tag Patent 1950s
A rare and fascinating piece of postwar Hawaiian history — the Maru Magic Bar Pillow, made in Honolulu, Hawaii by the Maru Magic Bar Pillow Co. This chrome roller massager measures approximately 13\" long and 4.5\" tall, with three parallel chrome bars mounted between sturdy black wood-grain handles. It was billed as \"The Pillow with a Thousand Uses\" — designed for back, neck, and shoulder relief — and marketed simultaneously to the US and Japanese markets, with both US and Japan patent applications filed (Japan Patent App. No. 887864).
The dual branding tells the story: one end cap reads \"Maru Magic Bar Pillow Co., Honolulu, Hawaii / Made in USA / Patent Pending,\" while the other reads \"Maru Health Pillow Mfg. Corp. / Japan Patent App.\" The original bilingual hang tag features Japanese text and a retro comic-style illustration that perfectly captures the optimistic novelty spirit of 1950s Hawaii. A Japanese-American wellness product made in Honolulu for both local and tourist markets — and quite possibly exported back to Japan as well.
All original labels and hang tag intact. Original box is in very rough shape, but still intact. A genuinely uncommon survivor in good vintage condition.
