Offered here is an N566 #80 Mollie Fuller, Newsboy Tobacco Actresses, Cabinet Photo. 1894/1895, VG. This one has a very tiny tear in the photo to the left of her knees. I am using a High Resolution Scanner for the large cards NOt photographing them- most are arched and will flatten in the shipping top loader. The N566 Newsboy series pictures Actresses and numbers into the hundreds of cards. The Newsboy cabinets were likely point-of-sale giveaways for buying the Newsboy brand of tobacco. The cabinets are standard 4-1/4\" x 6-1/2\" cabinets and have an albumen photo adhered to a red-inked mount advertising Newsboy of New York at the bottom front of the cabinet. Cabinets are blank-backed and often numbered on either the cabinet front or within the photo field itself and, occasionally both places Mollie Fuller. Many actresses have multiple poses or can be found with different mounts and the set offers the variation collector some real opportunities.Shipped in plastic, between stiff cardboard and with delivery confirmation.
This cabinet is from the first of the three major groupings of Newsboy cabinets.
The first and the most confusing group, has the subject title. in upper case and always on the mount.The photo will be numbered but this may be on the mount, or the photo itself, or both.If on the mount, it will usually be on the left-hand side.The word Newsboy will be in red, also on the left-hand side of the mount and the words NEW YORK also in red but on the right hand side of mount and in capitals.The size and style of the word Newsboy can vary in the manner of the words ‘Guinea Gold’ (British series issued by Ogden’s) but in the interests of my eyesight and sanity I have not attempted to classify the many variations, which probably exist.The backs of the cards were intended to be blank but isolated examples will be found where enterprising retailers have put their own advertising on the back.
