Natural Bamboo Curved Old Man Fishing Art Figure ws4788 For Sale

This remarkable piece is a masterfully hand-carved, standing-form sculpture, meticulously crafted from a single, substantial piece of natural bamboo. The artist has expertly utilized the organic shape and grain of the bamboo to create a compelling and unique figure. The upper portion of the sculpture features a finely detailed depiction of a smiling, bearded man, whose face radiates warmth and joy. His expression is one of contentment, and his right arm is raised in a cheerful wave, as if greeting an old friend. The intricate carving extends to his clothing, which appears to be a rustic, textured garment, possibly a fur or woven fabric, adding a lifelike quality to the figure.

The lower body of the sculpture cleverly incorporates the natural bamboo form, with its characteristic nodes and vertical lines. The artist has integrated the figure's hands into this section, with the left hand delicately holding a string from which two beautifully carved fish are suspended. This detail adds a narrative element to the piece, suggesting a moment of a successful catch or a fisherman's contentment. Towards the base, a small carved foot peeks out from a natural hole in the bamboo, a playful and unexpected detail that further emphasizes the artist's skill and creative use of the material. This sculpture is not just a carving; it is a conversation piece, a fusion of natural beauty and artistic vision that would be a standout feature in any collection or decor.
