Nice Vintage Post World War II Germany "Brit Zone"
Bevel Edge Socket Wood Chisel 1/2" Size is 1/2" x 9-1/2" OAL Blade 3-1/2" edge to shoulder, Tang Style with Brass Ferrule
With a Deep Red Brown Lovely old handle which I resurrected, regluing and refinishing this beauty is ready for your collection. Handle was originally a Beech Leather capped Supreme. I do not believe the chisel was ever used. I wanted a more elegant handle on it. This collector chisel could be used, but is an important piece of industrial history Marked As Follows:
DROP FORGED
GERMANY BRIT ZONE
This chisel is ready to go back to work or display. An edge protector has been added for safe storage and handling.
As Allied Forces Invaded and occupied Germany in 1945-46, governing in a vaccuum, the Allies divided the country into several zones and BRIT stood for British. As developers of drop forging in the 1920's both British and German factories had the know how to produce very high quality tools, including this chisel and British interests got the factories back up and running quickly to provide both employment and GDP for the new economy. The tools produced were eagerly purchased by consumers in England and The United States and sold through wholesalers and retailers. Eventually the "zones" were not neccessary and as occupation ended, Western Germany thrived. For those who remained in the East, it would be decades of poverty before the Berlin Wall came down and forges and factories throughout a united Germany once again roared to life.

What you get from me. I often purchase tools that come to me with undeclared flaws. I go through them and correct as many flaws as possible and sometimes use the tool for parts if it beyond refurbishing. Replacement parts are no longer made and sourcing them is difficult and expensive. Sometimes, I must purchase another tool just for a single part. I believe in transparency and tell you what I have done. I have decades of experience restoring antique tools. Please look closely at the pictures and make sure this is the item you want before purchasing. Only the item listed is included. Items in the background are for scale reference and display suggestion only.
