Ohashido Akebono Urushi Ebonite pen, 14k Soft Medium nib, 18k barrel band For Sale

When people think of Japanese fountain pens, the big three iconicbrands often come to mind: Pilot, Platinum, and Sailor, and for hand-crafted premiumpens: Nakaya—an offshoot of Platinum. Ohashido operated at a smaller scalesale, and was actually Japan\'s second oldest fountain pen maker until it ceased operations in 2024. As a multi-generational family penmaker, its artisans crafted hand-turnedebonite pens on a manual, foot-powered lathe. Each pen is unique and equippedwith a gold nib (typically 14k) that was custom made for Ohashido bySailor. Ohashido fountain pens are beautiful writing instruments. Most feature urushilacquer and an ebonite section, whereas I have found that most ebonite pens on the market use resin sections.
This is a beautiful akebono (red-black) urushi ebonite fountain pen from Ohashido (sometimes written as \"Ohasido\"). This pen has a beautiful akebono urushi lacquer that has matured into a deep red through age (and proper storage). The pen has a large 18k gold band around the barrel and an unmarked 14k nib, which I would describe as a Soft Medium (SM). The pen writes smoothly and without skipping. The only blemish I have found is some wear to the lacquer on the section, which does not affect writing function. I have found this to be fairly common with older lacquered ebonite sections.The nib on this pen is similar in size to a Sailor 1911S. I will include a new Sailor converter with the pen.
