When people think of Japanese fountain pens, the big threeiconic brands often come to mind: Pilot, Platinum, and Sailor. For hand-craftedpremium pens, Nakaya and Namiki—offshoots of Platinum and Pilot, respectively. Ohashido operated at a smallerscale sale. As a multi-generational family penmaker, its artisans craftedhand-turned ebonite pens on a manual, foot-powered lathe. Each pen is uniqueand equipped with a gold nib (typically 14k) that was custom made for Ohashidoby Sailor. Ohashido fountain pens are beautiful writing instruments. Mostfeature an urushi lacquer and an ebonite section, whereas I have found thatmost ebonite pens on the market use resin sections. These pens that willenhance any collection. This is a beautiful araishu (orange) urushi ebonite fountain pen by Ohashido. The pen features a bright orange urushi lacquer, as seen in the photos. The 14k soft fine (S-F) nib was custom made for Ohashido by Sailor. This is a smooth writer and lays a true fine line, with a little added softness compared harder Sailor nibs. This nib size is comparable to a Sailor 1911S, although the pen body is larger than a 1911S. I will include a new Sailor converter with the pen. The pen comes with its original leather case, which shows signs of wear, or perhaps character, depending on your perspective. There is slight micro-bubbling in parts of the section, which I have found common on vintage Ohashidos. It adds a tactile feel to the section and does not affect writing function.
