Old Recipe Card Box Handmade With Nailed Hinges Dovetailed Lid For Sale

Up for sale I have a lightweight, handmade vintage index card box, recipe box, or small trinket box. The inner dimensions are 3.5” x 5” which is exactly the standard size for classic 3x5 index cards or recipe cards, which fits perfectly with its 1960s aesthetic. The box feels remarkably light for its size and its highly likely made from one of the following materials common in vintage folk art:Balsa wood or Basswood. These were extremely light, softwoods that were the industry standards for hobbyist wood carving, pyrography (wood burning), and decoupage kits in the 1960s and 1970s. The mushrooms on the lid were created using decoupage—a technique where paper illustrations are glued down and sealed with multiple layers of clear varnish or lacquer to blend seamlessly into the wood surface.
