Rare 1898 37th Annual Reunion Badges – 10th New York Cavalry Veteran Association, Buffalo, N.Y.
Offered are two impressive matching veteran reunion badges from the 37th Annual Reunion of the 10th New York Cavalry Veteran Association, held in Buffalo, New York, October 18-19-20, 1898.
These were made by the prestigious Whitehead & Hoag Co. of Newark, New Jersey (full maker labels on the reverse with patent dates).
Features include:
- Gilt top bar “BUFFALO” over a silk American flag ribbon.
- Large circular portrait medallions of a bearded veteran in suit/tie (likely a regimental officer or prominent member).
- Gold silk ribbon with embossed silver lettering: “37TH ANNUAL REUNION / 10TH NEW YORK CAVALRY / VETERAN ASSO’N / BUFFALO, N. Y. / OCT. 18-19-20, 1898.”
- Original gold bullion fringe/tassels at the bottom.
- Excellent display pieces.
Condition: Very good to excellent for their age. Ribbons show typical light fraying/age, portraits have some foxing/toning (common), metal is bright, pins intact. One has a slightly different layout on the lower ribbon. See all photos for details—these display beautifully!
Historical Context: The 10th New York Cavalry (“Porter Guard”) was a hard-fighting Union regiment in the Civil War, serving in many major campaigns including Gettysburg, the Overland Campaign, and Appomattox.
