This is a fascinating and uncommon novelty postcard depicting a Pascola Dancer of the Yaqui Indians of Arizona, printed on actual Yucca wood veneer. The multi-color hand-printed image shows the dancer in full ceremonial regalia, set against an orange circular background, rendered in green, red, black, brown, and orange inks directly onto the natural wood surface. The text on the back confirms this is one of a series of Southwest Indian dancer cards by artist L. W. Holling, produced on Yucca veneer — a highly collectible and unusual format. The back of the card provides extensive ethnographic detail about the Yaqui people living near Phoenix and Tucson, their Easter Week Passion Play, and the role of the Pascola Dancer — who wears a carved wooden mask with a horsehair beard, a girdle with bells, and cocoon rattles on the legs. This descriptive text adds significant educational and historical value to the card. The card dates to the Linen era (circa 1930s–early 1940s) based on its style and format.
