This is an original cast‑iron seed hopper from the Eclipse Combined Drill & Check‑Row Planter, manufactured by Hayes Pump & Planter Co. of Galva, Illinois, circa 1893–1905. The heavy cast‑iron lid is embossed with “Eclipse” and the company name — the exact marking used on the early Eclipse planters.
This is a genuine, early agricultural implement component, not a reproduction. Rusted through it a couple of spots. Red paint flaking off in spots. Yellow paint showing through underneath.
The piece is used and shows honest age, wear, and patina. Perfect for collectors of early farm equipment, implement restorers, or anyone who appreciates 19th‑century cast‑iron craftsmanship.
