This is a very high quality, hand crafted and forged,
Japanese \"kodo\" ceremonial incense burner- barely
used at all. It appears to be made of bronze and weighs
about 2.13 pounds and is quite solid and very well made.
I have no provenance and its origins are
approximated due to my online research. It may have been hand crafted
in Takaoka, Japan, a city known for its quality tradesmen.
There is no maker\'s mark that I could find.
It features a crescent moon setting upon 3 small figures which are
holding it up like Atlas holds up the Earth on his back. Inside the moon
is a solid/stationary incense burner \'pit\' or cross hatched well in which
to place the incense.
It weighs approximately 2 lbs 13 oz.
It\'s unknown if this is actually an antique which has been incredibly
well preserved or not, but there are several which have been listed
or sold which were all represented as at least 100 years old which
are IDENTICAL to this one, except that this one presents as nearly
untouched or barely used. They priced their well used examples
at around $500. There is a new one, identical as well, misidentified on and currently priced at over $1,000.
\"Ikebana\" is counted as one of the three classical Japanese arts of
refinement, along with \"kodo\" for incense appreciation and \"chado\"
for tea and the tea ceremony. This seems to be a kodo piece.
