Offered here is an exceptionally striking vintage Westmoreland Glass unicorn figurine in a beautiful green slag / marble glass with a strong uranium response.
The unicorn is shown in a classic heraldic pose, seated upright on a ribbed rectangular base with one front hoof raised and curled back toward the body. The sculptural form has excellent presence, with a strong profile, detailed mane, prominent horn, and substantial molded base.
The green slag glass has rich darker and lighter swirls throughout, creating a stone-like marbled appearance in normal light. Under ultraviolet light, the piece produces an intense bright green uranium fluorescence.
Confirmed Uranium Response
This piece has been tested under both:
365 nm UV
395 nm UV
and shows a strong green reaction under both wavelengths.
The 395 nm response is especially important because it helps distinguish uranium-bearing glass from manganese-heavy glass that may fluoresce more readily under 365 nm.
The UV photographs show the dramatic glow clearly.
Westmoreland Identification
The underside bears the Westmoreland Glass Company WG mark, along with original molded letters/numbers associated with production.
The intertwined WG trademark was used by Westmoreland during the company’s later production period, supporting a mid- to late-20th-century date for this example.
Glass & Color
Green slag / marble glass
Uranium-bearing composition
Strong 365 nm and 395 nm fluorescence
Deep green swirls with lighter marbled variation
Pressed art-glass construction
The normal-light photos show the rich depth of the green slag, while the UV images reveal the intense fluorescent response.
Measurements

Depth: approximately 2.5"
Scarcity
Westmoreland produced a wide range of slag and marble glass forms, but this heraldic unicorn in green uranium-reactive slag appears exceptionally difficult to locate on the secondary market.
Extensive searching did not reveal another independently documented example in this exact form and color combination.
Because of that, this piece should be considered a notably scarce Westmoreland variation.
Condition
Very good vintage condition.
The unicorn displays beautifully.
Please review all photographs carefully for normal vintage surface wear, mold characteristics, bubbles, internal striations, and other manufacturing features associated with vintage pressed slag glass.
No major damage noted.
