Rare RCA Radiotron Man Advertising Figure – Late 1920s to Early 1930s
Description: Approximately 15” tall and includes the display stand shown. Retains its original Cameo Doll Company label on one foot.
History: The RCA Radiotron Man was produced by the Cameo Doll Company during the late 1920s to early 1930s as a promotional mascot for RCA’s Radiotron vacuum tube line. The character’s design has long been attributed to renowned American illustrator Maxfield Parrish, whose imagery became closely associated with early radio advertising and the excitement surrounding the dawn of broadcasting.
Condition: Displays very well overall and presents nicely as an early advertising figure. The composition body and painted surfaces exhibit age-related crazing throughout, along with scattered paint loss and small chips, including areas around the forehead/hat line and other minor areas of wear. Additional crazing and paint loss are present on the back. The red sash appears to show possible touch-up or repainting at some point in its nearly 100-year history; however, I cannot determine when, by whom, or to what extent, if any, restoration was performed.
This figure was acquired from an estate with no known provenance or restoration history. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the description and accurately depict the condition of this antique advertising figure.
A wonderful and seldom-encountered piece of early advertising history and an outstanding addition to any collection of RCA memorabilia, antique advertising, early toys, store displays, or Americana.
Will be professionally packed, fully insured, and shipped with great care.
