Reproduction Soviet RD-54 VDV Magazine Pouch
This is a reproduction of the magazine pouch from the iconic RD-54 (Ryukzak Desantnyy model 1954) paratrooper system. Originally issued to Soviet VDV and Spetsnaz units, this pouch is a critical component for historically accurate impressions of the Soviet-Afghan War, the Chechen conflicts, and Cold War-era reenactments.
Technical Specs & Construction
- Material: Heavy-duty cotton canvas.
- Hardware: Features the square stainless steel strap rings and plastic toggle closures.
- Mounting: Integrated belt loops on the reverse side; compatible with standard Soviet soldier belts.
- Capacity: Designed to hold two (2) AK-74 or AK-47 style magazines.
The \"Soldier-Modified\" Look
In the field, Soviet paratroopers rarely used the RD-54 system as officially instructed. It was common practice to cut these pouches away from the backpack frame to create \"self-made\" chest rigs or to apply them to vests, belts, etc. This reproduction allows you to replicate these historically accurate field modifications without destroying a rare, original vintage item.
Common Applications
- RD-54 Restoration: Replace pouches on original backpacks that have been \"liberated\" or damaged.
- Custom Chest Rigs: Combine multiple magazine and grenade pouches with AK slings as shoulder straps to build an authentic \"self-made rig.
- Increased Capacity: Sew these directly onto the back panels of an RD-54 pack or onto combat tunics and vests to increase your combat load.
Note on Color Variation
Authentic Soviet canvas production was notorious for significant color shifts between batches and factories alike. While this reproduction was color-matched to original samples, it may not be an exact match to YOUR specific vintage gear. Real RD-54 colors vary wildly due to different factory origins, decades of UV fading, and heavy field use.
