This is an original set of WWII issue Royal Air Force MK VIII flying goggles. The MK VIII was introduced in late 1943 and quickly became the standard goggle for RAF fighter and bomber crews, remaining in service through the end of the war. They were regarded as one of the finest goggle designs of the period, combining comfort, durability, and excellent visibility.
This pair is in used good condition and remains 100% original. The blue/gray painted frame retains its wartime finish, with the correct split-vent construction. The one-piece face pad is covered in soft leather and shows light but honest service wear. The goggle strap is complete with all of the original fittings, buckles, and leather reinforcement tabs intact. Stitching is tight throughout, and the lenses are good with no major scratches or hazing, a rare feature on goggles of this vintage.
The MK VIII pattern was highly prized not only by RAF airmen but also by U.S. Army Air Forces pilots, particularly those of the 8th Air Force flying out of England. Many American fighter pilots preferred the MK VIII over standard-issue AAF goggles due to their superior fit and performance at high altitude. Period photographs often show them worn by Mustang, Thunderbolt, and Spitfire pilots alike.
