Built beginning in 1916 and opened in 1917, the Brighton sugar beet processing plant was promoted as Great Western\'s “showcase factory,” with modern equipment and unusually attractive landscaped grounds designed to impress visitors, investors, and company dignitaries, often from nearby Denver. The factory was a major industrial employer, not closing until 1977.
