Ornate silver-plated mustard pot with grape and vine motif.
Silver condiment servers, such as mustard pots, salt cellars, and pepper shakers, have a long history in tableware, evolving from simple utilitarian pieces to ornate decorative objects. During the 18th and 19th centuries, especially in Europe, elaborate silver pieces were commissioned by the wealthy for dining tables, reflecting status and taste. These items often featured intricate designs inspired by nature, mythology, or classical motifs.
This particular piece, with its detailed grape and vine ornamentation, is characteristic of styles popular in the late Victorian or Edwardian eras, a period known for its love of elaborate decorative arts. The twisted vine handle adds a unique, naturalistic touch.
Raimond is an American manufacturer/importer. “Japan” on the label indicates where the piece was made. Raimond Silver Mfg. Co. was based in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and was active in the 1960s–70s as a maker of sterling and silverplated hollowware and novelties.
