This incredibly rare 3 inch vintage Orange Air captain pilot wing badge represents a stunning 1st-issue design featuring a high-shine gold-plated finish topped with a commanding star and wreath emblem, centered by a pristine black enamel roundel showcasing the signature logo and securely anchored by a dual clutchback reverse bearing the prestigious Johnson's Dayton, Ohio hallmark. Headquartered and based at Orlando Sanford International Airport in Florida, Orange Air operated as a privately owned, FAA Part 121 charter carrier from 2014 until it ceased revenue operations in 2016, primarily providing premium transportation services for commercial customers, sports teams, and United States government agencies. The seasoned captains who proudly wore this elite insignia commanded a dedicated charter fleet composed entirely of classic McDonnell Douglas MD-82 and MD-83 twin-engine jetliners before the company returned its operating certificate in early 2017, making this brilliantly preserved, short-lived piece an ultra-scarce and highly sought-after prize for serious collectors of modern American aviation history.
The wings are in very good condition, but does have some surface scratches. Please see photos for condition.
These wings came from NASA associate Director Daniel Nebrig’s estate and will Include a copy of the provenance card that the family and estate company made for these historic pieces. He owned the largest military medal, military pilot wings, military patches, and commercial pilot wings collection I have ever seen.
