Rare c1820s Boston & Sandwich Blown Flint Glass Bottle Swirls Muffineer Shaker: $125.00
Rare antique c1820–1830 blown flint glass bottle attributed to the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company. This early American example was made using the blown three-mold technique, featuring a bold swirl pattern typical of the period. The rim is cut and ground, and the base does not show a pontil scar — consistent with snap-case tooling used in 3-mold construction. Made from high-lead flint glass, the bottle has brilliant clarity and crisp detail. The interior is clean and clear with no cloudiness or staining, though it does show small interior bubbles and bits of excess glass, common in hand-blown pieces from this era. No bubbles break the surface. Includes a vintage tin shaker-style lid, which shows expected age wear, including dings and a split -possibly added later. Measurements: Condition: Excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, or stainingto the glass. Could have served as a sugar shaker or muffineer.
Boston & Sandwich Glass Company – Overview Founded: 1825 by Deming Jarves Location: Sandwich, Massachusetts (Cape Cod) Operated: 1825–1888 Also Known As: \"Sandwich Glass\"
Historical Significance Pioneered pressed glass: The company was one of the first in the U.S. to mass-produce decorative glassware using pressing techniques, making ornamental glass affordable to the middle class. Produced both blown and pressed glass: Including flint glass, cut glass, lamps, bottles, tableware, and decorative pieces. Known for clarity, high quality, and often richly colored or patterned glass. The 3-mold blown glass you referenced is an earlier, pre-pressed glass innovation (common around the 1820s–1840s), often used for sugar containers, bottles, and vases.
