Provenance: This photograph comes directly from the Marty Himes Racing Museum Collection, assembled over decades by Marty Himes - racer, restorer, and lifelong archivist of American racing. Every piece he preserved tells part of the story of motorsport’s rise from dirt tracks to the spectacle of the Indy 500. We acquired the majority of his photo collection after his passing. Many of his photos are extremely rare or even one of a kind.

This victory lane photo captures Brian Redman accepting the winners trophy after his triumph in the Coca-Cola Camel GT 400 at Lime Rock Park, Connecticut. Wearing a laurel wreath and beaming with pride, Redman is presented with a silver salver by Ed Horrigan, Board Chairman of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. - the major sponsor behind the Camel GT series. Looking on at left is Margret Claud, Miss Camel GT, and at right is Mrs. Horrigan. The backdrop prominently displays the Lime Rock Park and Camel GT branding, placing this squarely in the heart of the IMSA Camel GT era.
Brian Redman was one of the most respected endurance and sports car drivers of his generation. A veteran of Formula 1 and Can-Am, by the late 1970s he had become a dominant force in IMSA Camel GT competition, making this win at Lime Rock one of many highlights from that period.
Historical Notes
Brian Redman\'s victory at Lime Rock Park on May 25 in the Coca-Cola Camel GT 400 was part of his highly successful run in the IMSA Camel GT Championship during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Redman - a Northern Irishman who had raced in Formula 1, Can-Am, Targa Florio, and Spa 24 Hours - became one of the defining drivers of the Camel GT era, eventually winning the IMSA Camel GT championship. Ed Horrigan of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. was central to the sponsorship that elevated the series to national prominence, and the Camel GT brand became synonymous with American road racing in this era. Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut remains one of New England\'s most beloved road racing venues and continues to host professional events today.
Print analysis
This appears to be a Type 1 original silver gelatin press photo, printed at or very close to the time the photo was taken. The caption slip is typewritten and affixed to the back in the manner typical of wire service or racing press photos from the late 1970s to early 1980s. The image quality, paper tone, and surface characteristics are consistent with a period print from around 1979-1981.
