Russo-Japanese War IJN Hashidate Yellow Sea Battle Sake Cup 1904:
$299.00

DescriptionThis is an original-style commemorative sake cup associated with the Imperial Japanese Navy cruiser Hashidate and the Battle of the Yellow Sea during the Russo-Japanese War.The main inscriptions visible on the cup include:* “Warship Hashidate”
* “August 10, Meiji 37” — August 10, 1904
* “Commemoration of the Battle of the Yellow Sea”At the center is a naval motif featuring an anchor and cherry blossoms, strongly connecting the object with Imperial Japanese Navy commemorative culture.The Battle of the Yellow Sea took place on August 10, 1904, when the Russian Pacific Squadron attempted to break out from Port Arthur and was engaged by the Japanese Combined Fleet.Hashidate was one of the Matsushima-class protected cruisers, alongside Matsushima and Itsukushima. She had already seen service in the First Sino-Japanese War and later served again during the Russo-Japanese War, including operations connected with the Port Arthur campaign.Commemorative sake cups were widely produced in prewar Japan to mark military service, campaigns, victories, discharge, naval service, and other important occasions. They were not simply drinking vessels; they also served as personal souvenirs preserving the memory of a particular unit, ship, battle, or date.This example is especially appealing because it combines the name of a specific warship, an exact historical date, and a named naval battle on a single object.Imperial Japanese Navy commemorative items are generally encountered less often than comparable Army pieces, and examples naming an individual warship are particularly desirable to naval militaria collectors.Approximate size:* Diameter: 7.5 cm
* Weight: 46.9 gThere is age-related wear, discoloration, surface marks, and staining. Please examine the photographs carefully for condition.The metal composition and maker have not been confirmed, so this item is not described as silver.A small object carrying the name of Hashidate and the date of one of the major naval battles of the Russo-Japanese War.Own a Piece of History.Shipping
