Original mixed Latvian / Baltic / Jewish family ephemera lot associated with Sīmons Fainšteins of Viļāni, Latvia. The surname appears in Latvianized form as Fainšteins, corresponding to the Jewish surname Feinstein / Fainstein / Faynshteyn. The lot includes postal, medical, financial, photographic, wage/insurance, and small paper items connected with Latvia, Riga, and Viļāni.
The top-left item is a Latvian postal money-order or postal transfer form, “Pārvedums pa pastu,” with Latvian postal markings. It appears to relate to Sīmons Fainšteins at Viļāni, with a Riga / Latvia cancellation visible. This is one of the strongest named pieces in the lot and gives the group its clear Viļāni family connection.
The upper-right item is a Latvian medical-note form headed “Ārsta piezīmes”. It includes a line for a family member, with the name filled in as Sīmons Fainšteins or a close family-name form, and the place Viļāni written at the top. The form is mostly blank, but it is a good named Latvian civil/medical document fragment.
Two financial coupons are included from the Riga Mortgage Society / Rīgas Hipotēku biedrība or Rigaer Hypotheken-Verein type of institution. These coupons are printed in Russian and relate to 1917 payments on mortgage-bond securities. One orange coupon is for 27 rubles 50 kopecks, and one green coupon is for 13 rubles 75 kopecks. These add a strong Riga / Russian Empire / Baltic financial-history angle.
There is a small Latvian wage or benefit slip at lower right, with columns for wages, deductions, and payment in lats and santīmi. One handwritten note appears to reference slimo kasei, meaning sickness fund or health-insurance fund. This fits well with the medical/insurance theme of the lot.
The lot includes a small portrait photograph mounted on card, with the photographer imprint L. Wischikowski, Riga. The sitter is unidentified, but the photo was found with the Fainšteins group and is included as part of the same family-associated material. The photograph has a nice Riga studio-photography connection.
Also included are loose stamps or stamp fragments, including a Latvia/Riga cancellation, plus small cut or saved paper pieces. One small oval image appears to show an animal, possibly a raccoon or similar animal, and another circular red-and-black graphic label or decorative cut-out is also included. These may have been saved as personal scraps, labels, or album pieces.
