Charles Leiper Grigg was born in 1868 in Price's Branch, Missouri. He moved to St. Louis and started working in the carbonated beverage market. At 50 years old, he invented an orange soda named "Whistle", with Vess Jones. While working for another bottler, he invented "Howdy".
These 2 orange drink struggled because of the completion of the brand, Orange Crush. So, he developed a lemon lime drink in the late 1920's, and he eventually called it "7up".
This bottle commemorates "50th Anniversary of Seven-Up BottlingCo. St. Louis, Mo. Edward L. Taylor - World's First Seven-Up Bottler 1928-1978".
On the backside is the iconic 7up girl with the 7 bubbles, known as the "Bubble Swim Bottle".
This is a particularly rare bottle, because it still has its original Edward Taylor cap, which has the image of Edward Taylor on it, with "First Recognize 7up Bottler". This bottle was bottled by a Seven-Up bottler in Wisconsin, as it states on the side of the cap.
