\"Space: 1999 #1\" (published in November 1975 by Charlton Comics) is divided into three distinct segments: two comic book stories written by Nicola Cuti with art by Joe Staton. Plots contained within the first issue:This Bronze Age first issue features the iconic premise where Moonbase Alpha colonists become involuntary interstellar explorers after a massive nuclear waste explosion blasts the moon out of Earth\'s orbit 1. \"Moonless Night\" (Comic Story)

• The Premise: A massive nuclear chain reaction occurs on the far side of the Moon, where Earth\'s radioactive waste is stored.
• The Incident: The colossal atomic explosion acts like a rocket booster, violently blasting the Moon out of Earth\'s orbit.
• The Outcome: The 311 inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha are left completely stranded, hurtling uncontrollably through deep, uncharted interstellar space with no way to return home.
• 2. \"Intelligent Species\" (Comic Story)This is the main, original adventure featured in the issue.
• The Conflict: Commander John Koenig, Dr. Helena Russell, and Professor Victor Bergman lead a scouting mission down to the surface. However, instead of finding an open, wild territory, they discover that the planet is already ruled by a highly advanced and dominant alien species.

• Space: 1999 #2 (1976)The primary story in this issue is titled \"Survival\":
• The Plot: Commander John Koenig, Professor Victor Bergman, and a pilot named Tom set out in an Eagle to investigate a massive, mysterious alien starship.
• The Conflict: The team comes under sudden enemy fire, leaving their ship heavily damaged. During the attack, the co-pilot Tom is tragically killed, and Commander Koenig is wounded.
• Space: 1999 #3, published by Charlton Comics. this particular issue carried a cover date of March 1976. It features a script written by Nicola Cuti and marks the legendary John Byrne\'s very first interior artwork for the title.
• The Plot: \"Bring Them Back Alive!\"
• The Discovery: Commander John Koenig, Dr. Helena Russell, and Professor Victor Bergman land an Eagle spacecraft on Taurus IV, a planet that initially appears to be an untouched, completely undeveloped wilderness.
• The Trap: While exploring the planet\'s surface, the trio comes across a strange anomaly: a lavish, beautifully set table overflowing with food. They quickly deduce that the display is an intentional trap, but before they can escape, they are ambushed.

• The Plot: As Earth\'s errant Moon approaches a planet residing within the binary star system of Algol (traditionally known as the \"Demon Star\"), an unidentified alien vessel suddenly launches a ruthless, unprovoked attack on Moonbase Alpha.
• The Kidnapping: During the chaos, the hostile aliens abduct Dr. Helena Russell and several other crew members, taking them down to the planet\'s surface.
• Space: 1999 #5Main Story: \"Gods of the Planet Olympus\"
• The Setup: While exploring a seemingly hospitable, Earth-like planet, Commander John Koenig, Professor Victor Bergman, and Dr. Helena Russell venture out to survey the terrain.
• The Conflict: Their exploration vehicle, Eagle Five, comes under a sudden and violent attack by the sea-god Neptune
• Space: 1999 #6 The Plot: Commander John Koenig and co-pilot Mal Burns head out to investigate a mysterious planet. They discover the world has been completely devastated by an ancient, apocalyptic war fought between two alien factions: The First Federation and The Wok Empire. During the mission, things go sideways, leaving Koenig completely stranded alone in the void of space, forcing him into a desperate struggle to survive.
• Space: 1999 #7
• The Plot: This is a direct comic adaptation of the famous television premiere of Space: 1999 Season 2.
• Details: Commander John Koenig and the crew of Moonbase Alpha encounter the volcanic planet Psychon. They face Mentor, a delusional alien scientist who plans to drain the minds of the Alphans to feed his biological supercomputer.
