Dr. Lerum's art collection consisted of well over 100 African masks, statues, shields, and other items, some of which he personally obtained in the late 1970's/early 1980's travel to Africa and the Mideast. Other items were bartered in trade with African and other art galleries in the USA.
This particular mask is dated circa late 1970's likely bartered in trade, meticulously carved and inlaid. Said to represent Genghis Kahn, Mongol ruler whose empire at one time stretched from Asia to the MidEast, bordering Africa north of Egypt.
A beautiful display piece previously stored in Dr. Lerum's private residence.
