Note: Lord Ronald Gower, youngest son of the 2nd Duke of Sutherland, was a prominent figure in late‑Victorian artistic and political circles. A noted sculptor and author, he is best remembered for the Shakespeare Memorial at Stratford‑upon‑Avon and for his wide literary and artistic associations. Gower moved in the same aesthetic and social circles as Oscar Wilde and John Addington Symonds, and his personal life has led modern biographers to regard him as one of the period’s significant queer cultural figures.
