Sgt. Duban Of 500th Bombardment Group US Army Air B-29 WWII K-20 Camera Case:
$132.00

Amazing historical piece here!

This case is the original World War II military transport trunk for a Fairchild K-20 Aircraft Combat Aerial Camera. In black on black for maximum stealth- stamped across the top of the lid reads

“CASE TYPE K-20

AIRCRAFT CAMERA

HANDLE WITH CARE”

Historical Context: Produced heavily between 1941 and 1945, this specific heavy-duty vulcanized fiber or wood-framed case protected the massive 4x5 large-format roll film cameras used by the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) and U.S. Navy. Bombers, like the B-17 and B-29, carried these setups to photograph troop movements, scout targets, and conduct bomb damage assessments. The case features reinforced protective metal corners, rivets, and a heavy-duty carry handle designed to handle sub-zero temperatures and turbulent flight missions.

The metal nameplate reveals incredible historical provenance: this specific World War II K-20 camera transport case belonged to Sergeant Joseph J. Duban.

Who Was Sgt. Joseph Duban? Sgt. Joseph J. Duban (Service Number 33792340) served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was an active combat crew member assigned to the 500th Bombardment Group (Very Heavy), a famous unit under the 73rd Bombardment Wing operating out of Isley Field, Saipan in the Pacific Theater.

Military Citation and Legacy: Historical military archives document that for his actions during intense aerial operations over the Pacific between April 2, 1945, and May 23, 1945, Sgt. Duban was formally awarded the Air Medal. The 500th Bomb Group primarily flew the advanced Boeing B-29 Superfortress heavy bombers on long-range strategic strike and reconnaissance missions over the Japanese mainland. Because the Fairchild K-20 was designed specifically as a hand-held combat camera operated through the bomber's open hatches or tail gunner positions, Sgt. Duban was likely tasked with vital bomb damage assessment or aerial mapping photography during these high-stakes combat flights. The embossed metal strip nameplate was custom-made and riveted above the latch so his heavy flight gear wouldn't get mixed up with other crew equipment on the crowded airfield base.

500th Bombardment Group—flying legendary B-29 Superfortress combat missions out of Saipan—this case shifts from a piece of common field equipment to a verified piece of WWII Pacific Theater aviation history.

Such a collectible item tied to a decorated airmen with documented Air Medal credentials!
