This a perfect authentic 2 1/4"+ Shoals Creek Snapped Base (AL201) is made of a very pretty colorful Horse Creek Chert and was found in Colbert Co. AL by Jason Stockwell and comes with a Bill Jackson Galleries CoA. This is a phenomenal point with amazing material and quality. You will not find a more vibrant colorful Horse Creek Chert point. This is absolutely a centerpiece for a color frame. The red, orange, tan, brown, black all contrasting make this point unique and the Shoals Creek Snapped Base is a rare style. This point was absolutely a ceremonial arrowhead specifically made to show material. I believe it was ceremonially killed in ancient times.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large triangular stemmed point with an elliptical cross section. The blade varies from excurvate to straight. Re-sharpening of this point may leave serrations on the blade and the blade is commonly asymmetrical with one edge being straighter than the other edge. The shoulders are asymmetrical with one shouldered being more prominent and generally ranging from slightly barbed to horizontal and the other shouldered being more reduced and ranging from horizontal to having an upward angle. The stem is straight with a base that may vary from slightly convex to slightly concave. This point has as random flaking pattern.
Distribution Comments:
This point is primarily found in northern Alabama, but may be found through out the Tennessee River Valley.
Snapped Base Artifacts
Native American projectile points, a "snapped base" (sometimes referred to as the Kirk Snapped Base type) describes a point or knife that has had the basal area intentionally or accidentally fractured or broken off.
· General Consensus: Many archaeologists believe these are actually knives. The snapped base is the weakest point of the tool and most commonly broke during use.
· The Debate: Some collectors and knappers debate whether a portion of these bases could have been intentionally snapped off to be re-hafted in a modified handle, or if they were ritually "killed".
