This Sorrento Ware Inlaid Marquetry Wood Box features intricate designs of a folk dance inspired by Italian style craftsmanship. The box, measuring 11 1/4\" in length, 7 1/2\" in height, and 4\" in width, is made of wood with a brown and tan colors and waxed finish. Handmade in Italy during the Victorian era, this authentic collectible piece is labeled with the Michele Grandville brand and requires special wax cleaning instructions. The box is being sold \"as is\" because of a variety of condition issues. The top of the lid has built up grime on most of its surface. Removing this without damaging the surface will be difficult. A special wax needs to be used because water soluble animal glues were used to make the marquetery. The decorative panel background has an alligator texture from drying. The right lower corner has a loss of decoration as shown in the tenth photograph. The decoration on the side has micro-crackled appearance on close inspection. There is loss to one of the corners as shown in the eleventh photograph. The lid is slightly warped. The lock has no key. The original label has some wear.
