This fossil plate was quarried in an extinct lake known as Fossil Lake in Lincoln County, Wyoming. It dates from the Eocene epoch a CRAZY 53.5 to 48.5 Million YEARS ago!

The unusual chemistry of the lake created conditions that prevented decay while alternating layers of limestone and organic matter accumulated.
