Marked “Talavera La Corona Tlax Mex” - The hallmark of the La Corona factory (crown) is also hand painted and is also on the back. This signature is hand painted and is under the glaze layer and genuine.
Talavera has been made in Central Mexico for more than four centuries, since the Spanish conquerors arrived in Mexico, and shortly after they brought the potters from Spain to the new world. These techniques have been handed down over the generations and result in 20th century pieces with the same artistic qualities used centuries ago.
The Talavera in the regions of Tlaxcala and Puebla in Mexico, as well as Talavera de la Reyna and Puente de Obispo in Spain, were declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
