Large Navajo Silver Flask or Canteen. Weight: 15 ounces. (Silver value at current prices approximately $1,000). Dimensions: 4 1/4\" wide, 4 1/4\" high; Spout 1\" high. Turquoise button at top of spout has diameter of 3/4\".
Design: Large sunburst on each side. Side A approximate diameter of sunburst: 2 3/16\"; Side B 2 1/4\". No apparent marks on piece, although punch mark in center of sunbursts may constitute a mark which hasn\'t been identified.
Two halves of piece have apparently been joined by solder, with solder line covered by a wire impressed to appear ropelike. Alongside either side of the rope design are elongated circles joined with small dots, which rope and elongated circle design is repeated on the side of the spout cap. The spout cap is joined to the Flask with a chain. The animal skins at the bottom and top of the Flask are attached through rings with adjacent small bell-like devices. Animal skin attachments are: at top, approximately 9\", at bottom, approximately 17\".
The Flask has apparently never been used. There is no evidence of any residue within the Flask or odor disseminating from the Flask.
