Utagawa Hiroshige Woodblock \"Gate of the Shimabara\" Frame of Famous Places in Kyoto Series.We beleive that this woodblock is a reprint but we have not taken it outside the frame to confirm.

Original work is from 1835. This image has exactly the same size as the original work and the same dyes and handmade paper has been used. The image has the Hiroshige signature, the title of the series and image, exactly the same signatures and seals as the original.

Utagawa Hiroshige was born in Edo (present day Tokyo) in Japan on the year of 1797. During 1809, his parents passed away and Hiroshige became an orphan. It was during this time he first stepped into the art world. In 1811, another woodblock artist, Toyohiro took Hiroshige as pupil and during 1812, he was adopted to Utagawa school.

He began finding his artistic passion in landscapes and achieved his first real success on the year of 1832 with his “Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido”. His works are particularly known for his snow and rain in his works which has earned his nickname “the artist of rain, snow, and mist”. He continued to pursue his passion in art until his unfortunate passing in 1858 due to an illness.

Store Policy

Shipping Policy

• Signature: For items above $50 being delivered to an apartment or any sort of complex (townhouse, condo, etc.), we will ask for a signature upon delivery. If you wish to opt out of this option, please let us know BEFORE purchasing, and we will waive the signature. Alternatively, if you would like to sign for your item, kindly let us know prior to purchasing, and we will gladly add on a signature.

• Insurance: If an item price exceeds $100.00, we will add insurance to the item free of charge.

• Global Shipping: We do not use global shipping programs, so if you want to ship internationally, we highly encourage you to contact us first for shipping options.

Return Policy

• We offer returns for items within 30 days, in accordance with policy. We cannot accept actions outside of ’s return policy.

• If there are any problems with the item you have received, please contact us first, and we will work with you to find a solution.

• When returning an insured item, please be patient. The insurance claim process may take a while, but we ask that you retain the item and original packaging as proof for the insurance claim until the investigation is over.
