Offering for sale is one-of-a-kind ceramic sign from the original Brayton Potteries shop on Glenneyre Streetin Laguna Beach, California. Comes from the private collection of Mark Wadlinger, who was a aficionado and collector of rare & vintage California art pottery. Sign may have been used for its shipping dock location in the back based on its hand-drawn primitivelettering. Authentic advertising from Brayton Laguna are highly collectable based on their historical significance.
The Location1491 Glenneyre, references the modern five-acre production facility constructed by Durlin E. Brayton in 1938. The factory site stretched between the Pacific Coast Highway and Glenneyre Street.
Founded in 1927, Brayton Laguna was a powerhouse of the Southern California ceramic boom, notable as the very first commercial pottery company licensed by Walt Disney Studios to produce character figurines. The company ultimately closed its doors in 1968.
The piece features a terra cotta tile with a clear glaze over distinctively styled mid-century block hand-lettering. It is framed with an inset border of deep green glazed ceramic tile fragments and wrapped in an orange outer border. Two holes drilled into tile for hanging purposes.
The sign measures approximately 10.25" x 10.25" x 1". Weighs 4 pounds pre-packaged.
