VTG Chinese Fuzhou Foochow Lacquer 5 Pc Nesting Box Set Gold Gilt
Beautiful vintage Chinese lacquerware nesting box set consisting of 5 graduated round lidded boxes in exceptionally clean condition.
These pieces feature highly detailed gold-tone gilt decoration over a glossy black lacquer ground. Each lid has an intricate geometric pattern with elaborate raised floral and botanical decoration. The designs vary from piece to piece and include beautiful flowers foliage and other traditional decorative motifs.
The interiors have a distinctive metallic silver/gold-flecked lacquer finish, adding another beautiful detail to the set.
The boxes nest together from largest to smallest and are accompanied by the original box which has Chinese-language labeling and decorative artwork.
Based on the construction decoration and comparison with documented examples, these appear to be Chinese Fuzhou (Foochow) lacquerware. I have not found a maker's mark or signature on the individual pieces, so I am not making a specific maker attribution.
Condition:
Exceptional pre-owned condition. The lacquer is glossy and beautifully preserved with very little evidence of use. I do not see chips cracks or major losses to the lacquer. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the description.
The original box is included and shows age/storage wear consistent with its vintage condition.
