This is an exceptionally handsome vintage tablecloth with the kind of detail and textile quality that truly sets it apart. Measuring approximately 43” x 43”, the cloth features an elaborate traditional sporting and woodland design filled with beautifully rendered deer, wild boar, foxes, rabbits/hares, pheasants and other game birds, surrounded by abundant oak leaves, acorns and forest foliage. At the center, classic hunting horns and a sporting/game bag complete the old-world country estate theme.
The fabric itself is every bit as impressive as the imagery. Rather than a simple flat printed cloth, this piece has a substantial, luxurious feel with wonderfully varied, multi-textural weaving throughout. Different woven patterns create depth and dimension across the background and complement the richly detailed woodland scenes. Fiber content is unknown, so I have elected not to make assumptions regarding the exact composition.
The sophisticated palette of cream, forest and olive greens, warm browns, muted golds and touches of blue makes this particularly striking for an English Country, European sporting, traditional hunt, equestrian-inspired, lodge, cabin or old-world interior. It has that wonderfully collected country-estate appearance that works beautifully with antique woods, brass, leather and traditional décor.
At approximately 43” square, this is especially well suited as a table topper, small tablecloth, card or game table cloth, breakfast table covering or layered decorative textile. For styling and scale, it is photographed on a round table measuring approximately 44” in diameter; the tablecloth itself is square, not round.
No maker’s signature or label has been located. The exact fiber content and country of manufacture are unknown.
