Up for sale is a remarkably rare, authentic, original vintage snapshot from September 1925 capturing one of New England’s most famous roadside landmarks: the Famous Hairpin Turn along the Mohawk Trail in Massachusetts.
This historic view showcases the original roadside tourist gift shop/station nestled against the rocky hillside cliff before it evolved into the modern-day Golden Eagle Restaurant. Parked outside are three fantastic early 1920s automobiles, including a prominent Model T era coupe. Rising dramatically to the left of the building is the historic wooden observation tower, which tourists climbed to get sweeping panoramic views of the Hoosac Valley and the Berkshire Hills.
The reverse side contains crucial provenance details, featuring sharp vintage pencil handwriting that explicitly dates and localizes the image: "Hairpin Curve Mohawk Trail 9-21-25 11 AM." along with a stamped vintage inventory or log number "1621". An exceptional addition for collectors of early automobile tourism, Massachusetts local history, vintage gas stations/roadside stands, or rare 1920s vernacular photography.
