Vintage 1930s–1940s Filet-Style Lace Tablecloth, 91” × 58”, Ivory colored cotton. Floral & Geometric Design.
I believe this was machine made as it is so perfect. This would be called filet crochet if it was handmade.
The little four-petal flowers with the tiny open diamond centers and the long scrolling stems are quite characteristic of the design vocabulary of this period. The large rectangular center isn’t an unfinished area—it is deliberately incorporated into the pattern as a geometric counterpoint to the floral border. The center area looks like four patches to me, but I’m a Quilter.
It is a large gorgeous tablecloth 91”x58”. A couple of very faded stains very hard to find and there is one small hole that has earlier had brown thread hand sewn around it to keep it from fraying. See last photos for close-up of these.
I bought this in an estate sale in Clearwater, Florida. I laundered it and it washed beautifully. It is clean and ready to use. She had another very unusual tablecloth if you’re going for unusual antique and vintage tablecloths.
I have many vintage and antique tablecloths and quilts for sale. If you shop my store and find another tablecloth to buy, I have found that I can ship them both for about the same price as I can ship one.
