An extraordinary piece of mid-century fashion history! This original post-WWII Japanese Aloha shirt is crafted from fine printed silk crepe (chiromen). Fabricated by the renowned Osaka textile converter Itoman & Co., Ltd. (伊藤萬) (identifiable by the red selvage mark at the hem), this shirt features a striking multi-color discharge print set against a bold blue-and-white checkerboard (Ichimatsu) grid. The print detailed across the shirt depicts the iconic Japanese legend of Ushiwakamaru fighting Benkei at Gojo Bridge, framed alongside crescent moons and traditional wheel crest motifs (Genji/Gion-mamori).
