Vintage 1950s-1960s Pacific Northwest Coast Carved & Painted Wooden Box
Up for your consideration is a beautiful, mid-century vintage (circa 1950s-1960s) Pacific Northwest Coast Indigenous-style carved and painted wooden storage box or tall canister. This piece features hand-incised outlines and a striking traditional formline design in classic black and red pigments, depicting what appears to be a stylized Raven or Eagle crest motif wrapping around multiple sides.
Construction & Details:* **Era:** Authentic mid-century vintage (1950s-1960s).* **Craftsmanship:** Features hand-carved relief detailing outlining the painted formline artwork.* **Joinery:** Machine-cut finger/box joints on the vertical corners, typical of mid-century regional trade and souvenir pieces produced for galleries and trading posts during the post-war travel boom.* **Lid Hardware:** The lid features internal stabilizer cleats fastened with small, era-appropriate automated wire brads/nails showing natural oxidation.* **Markings:** Unsigned. There are faint, unreadable historical pencil markings on the very top of the lid, there is a lot of writing but am unable to make any of it out.
Design & Artistic Style:While this vintage piece is unsigned and does not carry a formal tribal affiliation certificate, the hand-carved formline graphics heavily mirror the traditional Northern Style (Haida / Tlingit / Tsimshian) of Pacific Northwest Coast Indigenous art.

Condition Notes:This authentic vintage piece shows beautiful, honest age and patina. There is an open split/crack visible along the top grain of the removable lid and a small structural separation split near one of the bottom base corners (all clearly pictured). The wood shows minor surface dust and light grime from decades of shelf display. It remains structurally intact, sits flat, and holds its shape beautifully.
