Vintage 19th Century John C Heenan vs Tom Sayer Bare Knuckle Fighters Clay Pipe: $59.98
This is a 19 century reproduction clay pipe manufactured by the late Barnum Carnival Novelties in Scotland. Rather than modern fighter names on these antique style pipes Barnum commemorated historical 19th century bare knuckle boxers. This pipe is 4-3/4\" long with a 7/8\" diameter bowl. Tom Sayer is represented on one side and John C Heenan on the other. It appears to be unused. Its not damaged or cracked. I have no idea why the 1950 date is written in pencil on the stem. This pipe commemorates the famous showdown on April 17 1860 \"Fight of the Century\" between the English bare knuckle and heavy weight champion Tom Sayer and the American bare knuckle prize fighter John C Heenan \" The Benicia Boy\" from Wyoming Territory. The fight was held in a secret field near Farnborough, Hampshire England. It was a 42 round two hour + world title match which ended in a draw after spectators and police intervened.
