Vintage pair of Antonio Canova-style reclining lion bookends featuring a beautiful antique gold/brass-tone appearance.
IMPORTANT MATERIAL INFORMATION:
These bookends are NOT solid brass. They are made of cast metal with a brass/gold-tone finish. They are being sold as vintage decorative reproductions and are not represented as original Antonio Canova sculptures or as solid-brass pieces.
The bases are marked “ANTONIO CANOVA 1757–1822.” This marking refers to Antonio Canova and the sculpture design these lions are based upon. It is not being represented as a manufacturer's mark or proof that these pieces were made by Antonio Canova.
These are substantial decorative pieces designed for use as bookends. The pair features two different reclining lion poses and displays beautifully together.
Both pieces have green felt on the bottoms. The felt has been pulled back/lifted in areas to expose the interior construction, and photos of these areas have intentionally been included so buyers can clearly see the construction and material of the pieces before purchasing.
These are vintage/pre-owned and show normal signs of age and use. There may be surface marks, finish wear, discoloration/patina, small imperfections, and wear to the bottom felt. Please carefully review ALL photos for the exact condition.
