Vintage CAO Large Fluted Grapevine Hand-Carved Block Meerschaum Pipe with Fitted Case
An impressive and unusually large vintage CAO Fluted Grapevine block meerschaum pipe, featuring extensive hand-carved grape clusters, leaves, vines, and fluted details throughout the bowl and shank.
At approximately 7 inches long with a substantial 3-inch bowl height, this is a large-format meerschaum with considerable presence. The extensive Grapevine carving appears well preserved, and the meerschaum has developed attractive natural cream, honey, amber, and warm brown coloration from previous smoking.
The pipe features an unusual multi-piece construction with a removable decorative extension between the carved meerschaum stummel and the stem. The bent acrylic stem displays attractive translucent reddish-brown, amber, and cream figuring and retains the distinctive inset CAO medallion.
The tobacco chamber shows moderate previous use and appears relatively clean. The stem shows minor surface wear/scratches around the lip area and one small tooth impression consistent with previous use. Please see the detailed photographs for exact condition.
Included is the original fitted CAO case with gold/yellow plush interior. Of particular interest, the case retains its “FLUTED GRAPEVINE” identification, corresponding directly with the design of the pipe. The exterior of the case shows scratches, creasing, and other age-related wear while continuing to provide a fitted presentation for the pipe.
No individual carver\'s signature is visible, so this pipe is being represented simply as a CAO Turkish block meerschaum rather than attributed to a particular artisan.
