A colourful vintage Hindu devotional lithograph-style print featuring Goddess Lakshmi in the traditional Gaja Lakshmi / Gajalakshmi form, standing majestically upon a large pink lotus and accompanied by two richly ornamented elephants.
Maha Lakshmi / Mahalaxmi is represented with four arms, wearing an elaborate crown, jewellery and deep blue-green sari. She holds pink lotus blossoms in her upper hands, while her lower hands display traditional blessing and giving gestures. A cascade of golden coins flows beside the Goddess, symbolizing prosperity, abundance and good fortune.
Two impressive ceremonial elephants rise from the lotus-filled water on either side of Lakshmi. Each raises its trunk above the Goddess while carrying a decorative vessel and lotus. Elephants flanking Lakshmi are a defining element of Gaja Lakshmi iconography, traditionally associated with prosperity, fertility and royal abundance.
The composition is exceptionally decorative, with a large pink lotus dominating the foreground, lotus flowers floating across the water and the two heavily jewelled elephants creating a symmetrical devotional scene.
The lower margin retains partial publisher information associated with Jain Picture House / Jain Picture Publishers, although some of the lettering has been affected by surface loss and age wear.
The religious artwork is printed on paper and applied/mounted onto a rigid cardboard backing. There is no plastic lamination or plastic covering.
The reverse retains an extensive original Gujarati commercial calendar/almanac-style advertisement for Messrs Shah Ambalal Maneklal, Vadodara, including Gujarati text, holiday information and railway timetable/reference details. This surviving reverse printing adds another dimension for collectors of Gujarati commercial ephemera and vintage Indian calendar art.
