Vintage Himalayan hand-carved wooden dance-style mask depicting a red horned demon, guardian or mythical animal figure. Features dramatically raised black horns or eyebrows, projecting yellow-and-black eyes, pierced nostrils, an open mouth and carved fangs. The interior is hollowed by hand and includes openings allowing it to be worn. Hanging loop attached.
Exact country, character, age and ceremonial history are unknown. Possibly Nepalese, Bhutanese or Tibetan. Condition includes extensive paint wear, scratches, chips, age cracks, worn and damaged teeth, surface dirt and irregularities from hand carving. Sold as found and not cleaned or restored.
